Maria Braun Flynn

At the age of 10, I spent many “snow days” stuck indoors at our home in Wisconsin, reading nature guides, looking through my microscope, and drawing. After moving to Key Biscayne, Florida, my days were spent outdoors enjoying the beach and the ocean. I didn’t practice much art. It wasn’t until my early 30’s that I decided to give watercolor painting a try. Art was not my
focus during that time in my life, but I was encouraged enough by my results to continue the journey – someday.
After moving to Costa Rica in 2013 with my husband, I needed a hobby, and “someday” had arrived. I began watercolor painting again, along with graphite pencil, colored pencil, acrylic painting, airbrushing, Intense, pen and ink, gouache, and digital art. I often combine mediums in my work.
Additionally, I have created NFT’s with some of my art because I figured it couldn’t hurt to know how it all works!
Most recently, I have discovered resin art.
As is evident, my art pursuits are varied, but watercolor fascinates me. It can be tightly controlled, or, left to its own, the beautiful, vivid colors mingle with the water in a magical dance.
Natural history, especially botanical subjects and aquatic animals are my favorite subjects.
