Artist Statement

Gerardo Selva Godoy born in Nicaragua 1952 became Costa Rican citizen in 1978. Started his art training in 1972 in England where he pusued a B.A. in Art and Design with a Ceramics emphasis in Ravensbourne Colle of Art and Design. In 1987 with the aid of a Fullbrigt grant he obtained a Masters degree in Art and design at Rochester Institute of Technology with a emphasis in glass. His work is displayed in important museums such as: The Corning Museum of Glass, The Museum of the UNESCO in Paris, The Museum of Natural History in Taiwan and The Costa Rican Museum of art, among others. Gerardo Selva Godoy has not only produced ceramics, he has also recorded four CD as a singer songwriter, has written four novels and has produced, written and directed three feature films and a series of short films. Gerardo Selva Godoy has been granted twice the national award of three dimensional arts of Costa Rica, (2012 and 2020) At the moment he lives in Pedregosito de Páramo de Pérez Zeledón, producing functional pottery in the slip ware manner of the English tradition, also produces his Ceramica Oro Jade which is a combination of the pottery, the gold pieces and the jade color the pre-Columbian Central American artists.
