Artist Statement

Sophie Standing is a British wildlife artist who has lived in Africa for 22 years. She now lives in Costa Rica. Sophie produces her art by combining collage of appliquéd fabrics and free motion embroidery. The details of the animals are created by sewing with different colored threads only. All materials used are 100% cotton, ideal for climates like Costa Rica, using contemporary fabric designers. Sophie produces work up to 1.5 meters long, and a single piece of art this size can contain 3000 meters of thread.
